Quiet Moments: Waters of Ireland

With Saint Patrick’s Day on the horizon and Saint Bridgid’s Day not long past, it is time of year when thoughts often turn to Ireland. If your dreams of Ireland include going to the place from which your family comes, visiting the Giant’s Causeway, drinking a pint in a Dublin pub, going to Kylemore Abbey, driving the Ring of Kerry, kissing the Blarney Stone, by all means do those things.

There is one other thing to do, though, wherever Ireland takes you.

Listen to the waters.

Ireland is a water born country. The North Sea, The Atlantic Ocean, The Irish Sea are all part of the past and present of Ireland, as are the rivers, from the Shannon to the Lagan to the Liffey to the Boyne. Lakes and streams play their part too. So does rain.

Take the time to listen to the waters. Let them speak to you. You will hear the voices of Ireland within them.
