I've never been to Natchez Trace, but there's one book that always gets me itching to see it (not in mosquito season!): Nevada Barr's "Deep South" and its sequel "Hunting Season." Barr is a mystery novelist and US National Park Ranger. Her detective, Anna Pigeon, is also a park ranger, and each of the novels takes place in a different national park. She's one of the most evocative and descriptive writers I know. Skip the guidebook on this -- pick up the mystery novel!
