I love this line. When most people travel, they tend to get so caught up in seeing the sites and whatnot that they forget to experience the city as something living, something growing, something that is a wonder in itself. 
And sometimes, the best way to do that is to live as the locals do - walk wherever, take the public transportation.

When I lived in China, the greatest joys I had was simply walking along the streets of Shanghai, taking everything in, not letting expectations dim the actual experience.
