Holy Crap!

I just did a search on the Google machine about cell phones on planes, I came here and read the article and giggled and said AMEN and enjoyed it completely, and then I read the name at the bottom and thought...wow...that is a really familiar name.

After some clicking and clinking of my brain matter....and a click on your name that showed me a picture...

It's NIA! I went to high school with you! I am so happy to see that you are still a fabulous writer, and even more happy that the Google machine let me find you.

Much love across the years, Amy Simpson (Miss Sardonic Pessimist '93)

Caitlin, I'll whisper this in your ear: I've been on a flight from Boston to New York where nobody stowed their bags and plenty of people made calls while we were in the air. It's a super-short flight, though, and is comprised almost entirely of business people, who talked very quietly. I found it shocking but not as annoying as some.

There is research that indicates mobile phone conversations might be a lot more aggravating to people than regular ones because it's somehow maddening to hear one side of a conversation.

That doesn't explain why I find it even more annoying to hear people going back and forth on their walkie-talkies. Those things can make me see red. Why can't Americans get along better with text-messaging, which bugs nobody in their vicinity?

Plus, of course, if the call is that important you can always use the expensive satellite phones provided.

I wouldn't mind it on a short-haul flight though - that would be quite useful. I agree that on a long haul flight it would be more nuisance than anything else.

Thanks, Marilyn! Let's hope so. Reasonable thought never seems to win out these days, but maybe begging will help :-)
